This village is found on the pine and olive covered slope of Mount Olympos. The town has narrow stone streets and the houses have projected upper floors known as Sachnisia with wooden
balconies which have flower pots for decoration. Agiasos is known for its fine ceramics, pottery and wood crafts such as wooden icons. It is not only known for producing various handy crafts, mostly famous for the church of the Virgin Mary. On the 15th of August worshipers walk from Mytilene to Agiasos (approximately 40 km) to pay tribute to the miracle working icon . The icon was brought from Jerusalem by a priest in the year 803.
